Two of New Zealand’s top artistic directors share the experience of managing dance companies in this final of the popular Business of Arts Master Classes 2011.

Neil Ieremia is in the vanguard of New Zealand's most accomplished choreographers. and imbues Black Grace, this country’s foremost Pacific and contemporary dance company, with an explosive mix of rhythm, spirit and energy.

Moss Patterson is artistic director of Atamira Dance Company, New Zealand’s leading Maori contemporary dance troupe. He and his colleagues create dance works inspired by Aotearoa’s history, legends and contemporary issues; drawing from their own personal stories and whakapapa.

Arts consultant Tara Jahn-Werner explores their careers and backgrounds; what motivates them as choreographers, and looks at the way their Samoan and Maori heritages respectively have been a key stimulus to their work. Most importantly, the skills needed to be employed full time in the arts, and how they balance creativity with the business of making a living.
