Festival of Light & Art

The five day festival will be hard to miss with extraordinary light, an explosion of music & performance, as well as, enough pizzazz to warm you up and put a spring in your step for a September evening.

The Quarry Arts Centre offers a brilliant venue of craggy rock faces and open meadow spaces where artist will run riot with light and colour. Everyone is invited to come and be a part of the ACTION!

The Festival of Light and Art and the lantern parade have been held successfully at the Quarry Arts Centre for the past two years as part of the Mid Winter Arts Festival. In 2011 our intention is to hold the festival in September to coincide with the Rugby World Cup and grow it into an even more spectacular annual event incorporating  ‘Art in the dark’, an illuminating fashion parade, music, theatre, circus, multi cultural events, the iconic lantern parade and much, much more.

Festival Programme 2011

Wednesday 14 September - Grand opening of Festival of Light and Art

8 -10.00pm - Official turning on of the lights and light sculptures, live music + dance or theatre performance, bar, food, art in the dark, laser show

Thursday 15 September - Heat and beats

6 -8.30pm - A variety of percussion drumming performances set to fire show and dance + theatre performance, bar, food, art in the dark, lights and laser show. VIP invitation area for sponsors and key community figures

Friday 16 September - Family evening

6:00pm - Lantern parade and circus performers from the Whangarei Central Library to the Quarry

7 -8.30pm  - Spectacular illumination fashion show and prize giving for best lantern, bar, food, art in the dark, light and laser show

Saturday 17 September - Festival Party

6:00pm - Live performances from local musicians. Entertainment, bar, food, art in the dark, lights and laser show till late

Sunday 18 September - A classical family picnic and festival finale

1:00pm - An extensive market and buskers stage

3 -6.30pm  - “Rhythm and light” - An afternoon/ evening of jazz and lights, bar, food, art in the dark, light and laser show

6.45 -8.00pm  - Grand finale laser show then official turning off of all the lights for festival finale
