Natalie Smith on early NZ fancy dress balls
Come along to the Blue Oyster's next Saturday talk, “Fancy Dress Balls and National Identity in Early New Zealand (1900 - 1910),” by Dr. Natalie Smith. The talk will start at 2pm on Saturday September 24th. In particular, Dr. Smith will focus on an All Blacks-themed dress worn by a Miss McWilliams to a fancy dress ball in 1906 (see event image).
Dr. Smith is an independent scholar. She has PhD in Art History and Theory from the University of Otago. Her research has looked at the intersections between visual art and fashion. She has published on wearable art and conceptual fashion. She recently co-curated (with Hilary Radner) an exhibition on NOM*d for the Eastern Southland Gallery (Gore).
