Workshop at Octagon Theatre
On Sunday 29th January at 3.00pm, Andi Podesta will be work-shopping her play 'The Blue Horse' at the Octagon theatre. It won the 2011 national PANZ full length play award. The workshop is expected to finish around 6.00pm.
The play is a historical drama based in the Whangarei area:
Late 1800’s Tutukaka Coast, New Zealand. The Harbour and the Ngunguru Estuary was then a hive of activity. Whaling had ceased and Kauri timber, gum and flax became a major industry. Scowls and Ketches would transport these resources as well as Coal (further up the Estuary from Kiripaka Township) to Auckland and further afield to England etc.
Settlers busied themselves making their lives more comfortable and creating the infrastructure needed to make the progressive advances necessary. This story is based on historical fact and has taken note of one of these families and how they may have lived. The Blue Horse was the main factual event that inspired this story. However it is fiction and the personalities created are also that.
The whaling station at Tutukaka had changed hands; new settlers had taken it over and had turned it into a Guesthouse and a homestead for their growing family.
This story is from the eyes of an innocent girl on the brink of womanhood struggling to find where she fits in. It’s a look at the relationships that surround her and her observations of family, love and equality.
There are 9 characters which include all age groups.
You are cordially invited to attend and enjoy a fun afternoon reading a role, and also, giving your observations. If you can attend, please let Andi know on the number below.
If suitable, the play may be performed on the Octagon stage sometime during the year.
