TheNewDowse throws the doors open on two new facilities to enhance the visitor experience: the Lounge and Shopette. Both facilities launch to the public at our first Late Lounge on 30 July, featuring music from Hannah Howes and Claire Terry.

The Late Lounge series brings the late-night Thursday buzz back to Lower Hutt, with 'quick bite' guided gallery tours at 5.30 and 6.30pm, and live music from 7pm including a Q&A session with the perfomers. All galleries are open till 9pm with full dining and bar facilities available at Café Reka.

The Lounge will be a space for friends and family to relax in, with comfortable couches and chairs for quiet ‘lounging’, arts-based reading material and a number of Connect computers with internet access.

Our daily DIY activity moves from the foyer into the Lounge, with new family-friendly activities including a magnet board, jigsaw puzzles. The Lounge will also feature showcase objects from TheNewDowse collection, beginning with Ann Verdcourt’s Infantas series.

The Shopette will operate from the foyer, with carefully-selected items from a number of boutique local stockists. Look out for design, jewellery & craft items, as well as exhibition merchandise. Old favourites Craftcamp return with a new range made especially for TheNewDowse, alongside Jude Perry, Genevieve Packer, Soft Rocks, Scrappers and Supervery.

Director Cam McCracken says "These new initiatives show our desire to engage with the community and break down barriers to accessing and enjoying the arts. We really hope our visitors will make full use of these enhanced services and we’d love to get your feedback – email newdowse@huttcity.govt.nz or connect with us online via Facebook or Twitter".
