Children's School Holiday Theatre Art Workshop @ HBMAG
Gifted drama students will have a once in a lifetime opportunity to spend a week working with internationally renowned American performance artist and teacher Charlie Oates, who will be leading an integrated theatre and visual art workshop at the Hawke’s Bay Museum & Art Gallery, Napier.
During the six-day workshop, to be held during the April school holidays, students will explore ways of expressing their interpretations of visual works of art through performance. They will develop and rehearse an original piece of theatre of their own devising, inspired by a work, or works of art, on display at Hawke’s Bay Museum & Art Gallery. At the end of the workshop, they will perform for family and friends.
Charlie Oates is a professional performing artist and movement coach who collaborates with museums, art galleries and theatre companies to create ensemble theatre pieces and site-specific performances. He has been a guest artist and teacher in many leading actor training programmes and universities in the U.S., Australia, Ireland, Switzerland, Hong Kong, Senegal, Sweden, China and New Zealand (including Toi Whakaari – New Zealand’s national drama school).
