New NZ Youth Choir Trustees
Choirs Aotearoa New Zealand Trust, which administers the New Zealand Youth Choir and Voices New Zealand Chamber Choir, has appointed two new Trustees to its Board, David Caygill and Warwick Mitchell.
Following the May Board meeting, Chair, Dr Alan Walmsley said, “I am pleased to welcome David Caygill and Warwick Mitchell to our Board of Trustees. Both have connections to the choral community – David has a daughter in the current New Zealand Youth Choir, and Warwick has had a personal interest and involvement in choral music”.
David Caygill is a former Cabinet Minister and Member of Parliament. During his political carreer he was Minister of Trade and Industry (1984-88), Minister of Health (1987-88), and Minister of Finance (1989-90). Following his retirement from politics he returned to his former profession as a lawyer, becoming a partner in Buddle Findlay, specialising in public law. In December 2003, David was appointed Deputy Chair of the Commerce Commission and is now Chair of the Electricity Commission.
Warwick Mitchell has worked in senior management roles for the Freightways Group for 23 years, including general management, and is currently National Sales and Marketing Manager for Post Haste Ltd, the parent company of three Freightways brands. For the past 14 years, Warwick has been active in the Auckland Choral Society and served on their Executive Committee. He is currently Chair of the Executive Committee.
In July the New Zealand Youth Choir celebrates 30 years of success with a reunion of alumni and friends in Wellington and a concert at the Wellington Town Hall. Thanks to sponsorship from the Wellington City Council, concert tickets will be free to the public and will be available towards the end of June.
