NZ Company Launches Design Competition

A New Zealand jewellery design business is giving designers and anyone with an interest in design and fashion a unique chance to test their abilities.

Evolve New Zealand wants people who are passionate about New Zealand and about design to come up with exciting Kiwi inspired charms for its next collection.  “This competition isn’t just about creating charms” says Tim Laing co-founder of Evolve New Zealand “ (the competition) is about exposing talented designers to the market and giving them an opportunity to see their designs commercialized.  It’s a win, win for everyone.”

With designs inspired by New Zealand’s culture, landscapes and lifestyle, from the koru and kiwi to the sheep and Southern Cross, Evolve New Zealand’s charms have a unique appeal for locals and tourists alike.

The small Marlborough based company is headed by Tim and his wife Louise, and its charms are stocked in over 50 jewellery stores and galleries throughout New Zealand.  Ever innovative in its approach, Evolve New Zealand is now embarking on a competition to find new designs for its unique range of jewellery.

The annual competition, of which this is the inaugural year, is due to be launched on Wednesday 28th April 2010 and entries close 30 May 2010.  The competition will give designers and emerging artists a chance to design charms for Evolve New Zealand’s next collection.

Louise and Tim see this competition as an exciting career opportunity for the winning designer; who may see their design turned into a commercial product and sold throughout New Zealand.  A commission will also be given to the winning design.

“Discovering New Zealand’s emerging designers and giving them the opportunity to come up with a design that might be turned into a marketable product is really exciting” says Louise.  “In the time that we have been in the industry, we have seen lots of talented people struggling to commercialise their designs.  This competition could give the right person with the right design the sort of exposure that could potentially lead to other exciting opportunities.  Usually that sort of career boost follows years of experience and hard graft” finishes Louise.

“This is way more than just a competition” adds Tim “This is about exposing the design talent we have here in New Zealand.”

Notes:

Designs can be submitted as a hand drawn design, an Autocad design or a model (wax or clay).  Competitors are also asked to consider the name of their charm, what inspired them to create the design and how the charm might be displayed and marketed.

Competitors will need to agree to the company’s Terms and Conditions before entering the competition.  For more information on our design criteria and for a list of competition terms and conditions visit www.evolvenz.co.nz

This competition is open from 28 April until 30 May 2010, so get inspired.
