Playmarket Glen Innes Youth Project
Playmarket is proud to announce a new initiative to excite and encourage the creativity of youth in Auckland: the Playmarket Glen Innes Youth Project.
The project is running during the April school holidays and is open to all 14-25 year-olds interested in acting and scriptwriting. To ensure the initiative is accessible to all the project is being offered FREE.
Budding actors will work closely with professional actors Suli Moa, Amelia Reid and Shadon Meredith using NZ plays to gain new skills and tools to enlighten and excite their work.
Writers will work with playwright and screen-writer Victor Rodger (Sons, My Name Is Gary Cooper, Shortland St) to encourage and develop their own unique voices and stories.
This project is proudly sponsored by Playmarket, Creative Communities Auckland, Glen Innes Community Library and Auckland City Council.
Both workshops will take place at the Glen Innes Community Library and Glen Innes Community Centre:
Acting workshop from Wednesday 7th- Friday 9th April 9.30am-4pm
Writing workshop from Wednesday 14th - Friday 16th April, 10-2pm
Imraan Ali (Glen Innes Community Library Manager) had this to say about the project:
“These workshops will encourage the public to actively explore ideas and issues and the different ways of storytelling through the medium of theatre. Primarily the workshops are designed for Maori & Pacific Island youths, but general members of the public will be welcomed to experience in participating actively in writing and performing theatre plays. We see it as a great opportunity to attract youths of all backgrounds and culture, to express themselves and hopefully at the same time enjoy the library environment as a community place.”

There are only 20 places for each workshop and they will be allocated on a first come, first served basis.
