BDO Northland Painting and Drawing Award Show
The 2010 BDO Northland Painting and Drawing Award is set to showcase and promote some of Northlands most talented artists.
Over 120 entries were received for the ArtsXL Charitable Trust hosted event, with guest judge John Gow pre-selecting over 75 pieces to be exhibited at The Centre from 14th to 21st of November.
“This truly is a Northland event. The exhibition will feature artists from Wellsford to Awanui and many places in between, including Russell, Maungatapere, Whangarei, Mangonui, Kohukohu, Kaikohe, Kaitaia and Kerikeri” said Tania McInnes, event coordinator.
The exhibition will offer a diverse range and style of work, with pieces been developed on canvas, cloth and board. Materials are also diverse including oils, ink, sand, pencil, watercolour, pastels and acrylic.
“There was no set theme for the Award and so we have a wonderful selection of topics, including landscape, abstract, nature and people. A number of pieces will provide food for thought for the viewer,” said Tania.
Part of the exhibition is the The Rona Swallow Art Award, featuring year 12 or 13 Bay of Islands students works.
People are encouraged to come and support the exhibition. “Whether you are an art lover or just a lover of an outing, there will be a piece to inspire, educate or just plan enjoy”.
This is a charitable event and one that can not happen with out the wonderful support of sponsors, so thank you to BDO Bay of Islands Chartered Accountants and Advisors, Far North Creative Communities Scheme, Living Nature and The French Art Shop.
Works will be for sale, including the winning pieces. The public will also be encouraged to vote for their favourite piece, the one with the highest votes winning the ‘People’s Choice Award” to be announced on Friday 19th November.
ArtsXL are also looking for volunteers to help man the exhibition. People interested are encouraged to contact the event co-ordinator to register their interest.
The exhibition will run every day at The Centre, Kerikeri, opening at 10am, from Sunday 14th to Sunday 21st November.
