Strong foundations laid for the Quarry future

Progress has begun to rebuild the Yvonne Rust Gallery and Quarry Arts Centre Office. The previous quirky and much loved building stood at the entrance to the Quarry for the last 25 years. It had many reinventions over the years being; a lithograph studio, a glass studio, an art supplies store room and most recently the Quarry Office and Yvonne Rust Gallery. The building had to be demolished as it no longer complied with council regulations. Although many in the community are sad to see it go this is an amazing opportunity for the Quarry to be able to offer a brand new gallery to artists whose applications are successful once the new building is complete.

The new building will have a level floor inside with external ramp access, a permanent Yvonne Rust display area, small showcase pods for artist installations, quality art supplies and clay, as well as, the Quarry information hub and Yvonne Rust Gallery – all of which will be contained in a building which is designed to adhere to the Quarry’s character.

The new building is due to be completed in late July. This project was made possible with grants from ASB Community Trust and Lottery Community Facilities.
