InterMission #2 Reaching wider audiences

Young audiences and new audiences are out there, they go to films, they go to music, they spend hours on-line; what will make them more interested and keen to come to our live performance / arts events?

This is NOT a discussion of marketing (obviously that plays a part).  But we are focusing on our work and exploring how we might open that work up to wider audiences.  We will examine the ‘purpose’ of a range of performing arts projects, the audience that ‘purpose’ may attract and how we may shift that ‘purpose’ to attract wider and younger audiences.  

Bring your visions for upcoming projects that you want to make and we will curiously explore these together.  Music Promoter Jim Rush will join us to help open up the conversation. Leo Gene Peters (a slightly isolated dog) will be facilitating. 

Tuesday 26 April at 6pm @ the Hub in Toi Poneke, The Arts Centre.

What is InterMISSION?

The Wellington Producer’s Room are resuming their successful discussion series that was piloted last year, and present to you InterMISSION.

InterMISSION is a series of FREE facilitated forums between emerging and established theatre practitioners, where we meet and address questions of critical importance for the success of our artform in New Zealand, for ourselves as practitioners within the theatre sector, and to ensure the delivery of quality art experiences to our audiences.

The discussion will encourage values of honesty, concrete specificity, generosity and curiosity, so that those involved can interrogate their own work with the group present. And through this process, consequently, build a space where we come together communally to interrogate and evolve our work.

These forums are supported by Creative Communities funding through Creative NZ and Wellington City Council.

The next two forums are scheduled for:

Monday 16 May, 6pm – How do we enrol each other as collaborators? This question will be explored through a staged conversation, in which two established theatre makers will discuss working together on a theatre project.

Thursday 9 June, 6pm - How do we discuss as peers, each others work in a meaningful and supportive way to encourage greater rigour in our practice? This question will be explored through a forum discussing the recent work Death and the Dreamlife of Elephants.
