Women Entrepreneur Week Launched

CompanyOfWomen are excited to launch Women Entrepreneurs Week.
The focus is simple: Success and what it takes for us to deliver even more.

Women Entrepreneurs Week (WEW) champions the successes of women entrepreneurs in events held up and down the country, where women entrepreneurs open their doors to share their learning with other business owners.

“We wanted to create a platform where entrepreneurs at all stages of the biz growth journey can share their success formulas with each other and also, to celebrate the distinctive way in which women achieve success and thus the idea for Women Entrepreneurs Week was born to deliver relevant learning by relevant peers” said Tara Lorigan, founder and CEO of Growmybiz, which CompanyOfWomen is a brand of.  CompanyOfWomen (.biz) is at the core an online social network for kiwi women entrepreneurs, which currently has 240+ members.

During this week women business owners, who are growth focused and have a passion for sharing their learning, will open their doors to their peers. WEW has created a no boundaries format which makes it easy for other entrepreneurs to attend an event that suits their schedule.

Sophia Elise, who is a creative entrepreneur and participant of the ART Venture programme and ART Generator Network, was invited to host an event during this week. She is the Managing Director of the NZ Art Guild, an award winning nationwide business which provides support, promotion, opportunities and resources to NZ visual artists.  In 2009, Sophia won the David Awards for Most Community Minded Business; in 2010 she was a finalist in the David Awards for Most Inspired Use of Marketing and Most Community Minded Business and was also a finalist in the Her Businesswoman of the Year Awards for Outstanding Business Citizenship.

During the evening, Sophia will share how she went from Registered Nurse to award winning business owner in just two years; the challenges she faced with growing her business (the NZ Art Guild), how she dealt with and overcame the difficulties and her success tips. There will also be an opportunity for people to network with other like minded entrepreneurs over drinks and nibbles while viewing the stunning exhibition by artist Sam Foley.   “As a member of CompanyOfWomen.biz, Sophia is a great contributor and I’m really looking forward to being at this fantastic event and learning from her experience”, said Tara.

“Life is the Colour You Paint It” will be hosted at Whitespace in Ponsonby on Thursday 3rd March from 7-9pm.  This event is free to attend and numbers are strictly limited.  To book your place at this fantastic event rsvp to sophia@sophiaelise.co.nz

    Sophia Elise

Sophia Elise is an Auckland based, self-taught artist. She is actively involved in the local art community as a founding member and Manager of the New Zealand Art Guild, member of the Trust Board for Mairangi Art Centre and a participant in the ART Generator Programme.

Since 2004, Sophia has been selected as a finalist in several NZ Art Awards and involved in numerous exhibitions throughout NZ. She has exhibited in London and Italy and also had her artwork selected to be created into original bangles by American jewellery company, Bajidoo Bangles.

Sophia has two very distinct styles of art. She is an extremely tactile person and this love of texture is reflected in her heavily textured, minimalist, abstract style which often incorporates resin. Her other distinctive style is created entirely with hand painted dots and inspired by the rich Maori culture.

When Sophia creates she believes it's important to "Make it Memorable". She achieves this by drawing inspiration from her emotions and forging it with her environment and experiences. By doing this she encourages the viewer to connect on a deeper level and explore places within themselves. Sophia creates unique, original art which is a window into her soul.

'If my art can reach into the soul of another and emotionally and spiritually touch that person, then it's all worthwhile.'
