Turn Wellington's Winter On Its Head!

Turn winter upside down!
Summer is here at Capital E

In the July holidays Capital E is turning winter upside down and back to front as families are invited to escape the wilds of Wellington’s weather and step into the seaside haven of a Summer Scorcher. Enjoy a day by the sea complete with beach balls, sandcastles and a Deckchair Cinema!

On entry families will receive a scorecard to record their skills in classic seaside games like Wheel of Fortune, Hook-a-Duck and Beanbag Bull's-Eye! Then for something a little different than the usual beachside experience zoom over Wellington harbour on a flying deckchair or ask the virtual fortune teller if your numbers will be coming up in the lottery!

In all the excitement, don't miss the Deckchair Cinema playing on the hour every hour. Capital E and Square Eyes – New Zealand Children’s Film Foundation are delighted to offer families a selection of sun, sea and sand themed short-films from around the world, including Karla Rabbit on the Beach from Scandinavia, Lucky Dip from the UK, and from here in New Zealand, The Great White Man-Eating Shark.

But what summer holiday experience would be complete without ice-cream, candyfloss and Bingo by the Sea?! On Saturday 30 July, get a team together and prepare to yell BINGO, as Capital E’s entertaining bingo master calls two little ducks, all the sevens and fingers crossed your numbers too! There will be spot prizes, and plenty of laughs in what will be the perfect event to end the holidays with the whole family.

The theme continues as children aged six and over can take part in a workshop to create a unique look and design their own summer t-shirt. With fabric, beads, paint, and a myriad of accessories, tutor Nicole Thornby will teach them the skills to create a design that is sure to stand out in the crowd.

And Creative Technology too…
Children can go Back to the Future and become part of a small television crew capturing their amazing time-travel adventure in Capital E’s TV Studio. Then it’s time to turn down the lights, and turn up the sound… for Game On in the SoundHouse, create a 3D game or take part in a day dedicated just to playing!
