Inside Out Project Taupo in October

As 2011 TED Prize winner JR has made his wish: “I wish for you to stand up for what you care about by participating in a global art project. And together we’ll turn the world INSIDE OUT.”
INSIDE OUT is a large-scale participatory art project that transforms messages of personal identity into pieces of artistic work. Upload a portrait. Receive a poster. Paste it for the world to see.

Taupo curator Eleazar Bramley & local artists Marita Green & Audrey Holyoake have launched their plan for the Inside Out Project Taupo.  With the support of independent arts business th'ink media the women have secured a group submission to the biggest community art event in the world.

So JR decides to start the Inside Out Project and a local group of artists and friends decided to make a submission as a Taupo group.

Jamie Oliver won the TED Prize in 2010 and started his Food Revolution.

Taupo based arts producer JoFF Rae (aka ARTIVIST) had made a personal submission and was considering a group submission involving a city.  As the plans unfolded Audrey and Eleazar suggested to JoFF that the project would be suitable for Taupo.

"For so many reasons the Inside Out Project fits and suits Taupo.  It's vibrant and involves local people.  It has a sense of inclusiveness" says JoFF "I am excited that we can bring this event to Taupo and contribute to the biggest art event in the world - a chance to turn the world INSIDE OUT."

"We're in the process of collecting portraits and have had massive support from the people we have spoken with" says Audrey Holyoake "we're still trying to secure wall space as the more walls around town the better!"

The project involves collecting large format black and white portraits which are uploaded to an online "gallery" with a personal statement from the subject; the IOP team print and send posters of the portraits to the IOPTaupo coordinators to then paste them up.
 
The Inside Out Project Taupo is scheduled for Friday 14th October in Taupo CBD and will be documented for the international virtual exhibition.
