Upcoming Photography Exhibiton at KiSSS Studio, 66b Kingsford Smith St, Lyall Bay

 Under the care, critique and flagrant cursing of photographer Fleur Wickes of KiSSS Studio in Lyall Bay, six independent photographers have created an exhibition of their work entitled “Lets Live Until We Are Breathless”, opening Friday 20 May.

The title is taken from a comment made by a friend of Fleur’s shortly after the Christchurch earthquake.  It recognises the transience and uncertainty inherent in life, and the need to cherish every moment.

The quote particularly resonates with Lisa Perigo’s work, whose haunting photo of a woman after breast cancer, promotes the exhibition. “It was an honour to photograph and share these women’s stories, to show the reality of their experience and to express the beauty that I see in them.”

None of the photographers knew each other before embarking on the 8 week “Redefining Portraiture” workshop, but under Fleur’s expert guidance, found a common ground in the challenge and delight inherent in the creative journey. “We are a very diverse group and the portraits we have created reflect this. I was so inspired by the images that everyone was producing, and by Fleur’s careful direction, that this encouraged me to push myself further”. says Lisa.

Fleur is a passionate teacher and is excited about the upcoming exhibition. “All six of my students have created a powerful body of work.  I am so proud of them.  It is truly inspiring to me to see where passion, commitment, focus and talent can take you in a very short time”.

Let’s Live Until We Are Breathless features photographers Denis Hulston, Kitty Marshall, Jacqui Wales, Lisa Perigo, Jenny McDonald and Stephanie Kuttner.  It runs from Friday 20 May – Saturday 28 May, at KiSSS Studio, upstairs, 66B Kingsford Smith Street, Lyall Bay.
