A Curious Wonderland arrives in Wellington

Journey into a topsy turvy world, marvel at the stories of the ocean or master mind-blowing technology? whatever you choose at Capital E these holidays you’re sure to have an adventure.

As families enter A Curious Wonderland a delightful decision awaits them – take a swooping slide down the rabbit hole and into a magical rabbit warren or tread carefully down the wonderland staircase to the fortress of doors.

Before embarking families must not forget their curious backwards name tag for the adventure ahead! Then they can pick their way through the Wonderland Wood and onto the grassy lawns for a spot of flamingo croquet. Pass the giant playing cards and into Heart Palace, where the Queen of Hearts will be delighted with people’s red rose decorations for her shrubbery. There are caterpillar riddles to solve, black-light tunnels to navigate, and Alice needs to be shown the way back home in a maze puzzle. Each turn will bring a new wonderful task to complete and saving the best for last – to reward the efforts of the Wonderland Wanderers, an unbirthday cupcake will be awaiting them to decorate and take home! Running throughout the holidays Capital E National Theatre for Children brings you The Dominion Post season of Songs of the Sea.  It's travelled to Melbourne and toured around the North Island – now at home in Wellington, this is the perfect time to catch this "beautiful and enchanting" production. Written by Peter Wilson, directed by Kerryn Palmer and Bill Guest, featuring a host of colourful puppets by Sue Hill and a talented cast of four that bring them to life, this is a captivating play that weaves together stories of the sea, including Wellington's own tale of Taniwha Ngake. When the Milky Way parts to make way for a boat captained by an intriguing character, the Shaper of the Universe, you know this play is going to take the audience on an unforgettable journey. Sat 8 2pm, Mon 10 – Sat 22 10am & 11.30am.

Then it’s over to Capital E’s Creative Technology team where motion capture is not just for Peter Jackson! In the SoundHouse NZ™ studio children aged eight and over can experiment with newly released motion capture software. There’s a lot of fun to be had with the thousands of animations to choose from, and it’s simple, when they move their body, the virtual actor follows! In the OnTV Studio things are getting a little spooky with reports of ghouls in the control room and skeletons operating the cameras. Capital E needs people to get things back under control (or join in) to bring the Spooky News to the people of Wellington.
