Getting started:
- How do I become a member of The Big Idea?
You can join as an individual or as an organisation. Join now - How do I log in?
Go to Log in - I've forgotten my password so can't log in. How do I find it again?
If you know the username or the email address you registered with go to Request new password - I've forgotten my username so can't log in. How do I find it again?
Go to Find username - How do I change my password?
Log in and go to My Profile > Edit enter a new password in the Password and Confirm password fields and select Submit button. - How do I change my email address?
Log in and go to My Profile > Edit enter a new email address in the E-mail address field and select Submit button.
Member profile:
- How do I create a Member Profile?
Log in and go to My Profile > Edit and enter information as desired. Once you have created your Profile you can use it as an online portfolio. It will be assigned a user friendly Profile URL which you can include in your CV, in emails or on websites - any place you promote yourself. - How do I edit content on my Member profile?
To add or remove content from your profile, edit the content and change the Display in Member Profile? field to "No". Edit content by logging in and going to My Toolbox > Maintain Content. Please note, by default, content that you post to The Big Idea (e.g. resume, video etc) also appears in your Member Profile. - Member Profile URL:
The URL for your profile is created from the Name you supplied when you joined The Big Idea e.g. http://www.thebigidea.co.nz/profile/[Name]/[User Id] You can change this by logging in and editing the Name field in My Profile > Edit > About... We recommend that you use your real name or the name of your organisation.
Submit/share/edit content and comments:
- How do I submit/share content to The Big Idea?
Log in and go to Share your content. You will be shown the type of content you can submit to each section (i.e. NEWS, WORK, GROW, CONNECT, SHOW, CHAT). Select the content type to submit content. Or whenever you visit a section you will find a convenient submit content link. - How do I maintain (edit or delete) content I have submitted to The Big Idea?
Log in and go to My Toolbox > Maintain Content. Select Edit to update the content or Delete to remove it permanently from The Big Idea. Also when you viewing content you have submitted you will be presented with an Edit tab at the top of the content. Select this tab to update the content. - How do I view comments I have submitted to The Big Idea?
Log in and go to My Toolbox > My Comments. Select the Comment Title to view and edit comments you have submitted. - How do I view comments by members about content I have submitted to The Big Idea?
Log in and go to My Toolbox > Member Comments. Click on the Comment Title and use Reply to send a response to the member who has made that comment or you can click on the Content Title to view all the comments and you can respond to them individually. - What do I do if HTML formatting has gone wrong?
Only selected HTML is allowed, if text you have pasted from another website is not displaying correctly it is likely dissallowed HTML has been removed.
Make sure you click on the ‘Paste as plain text’ icon or strip out all HTML tags by first pasting into notepad then into the relevant field of The Big Idea. Use the editing options provided to format the text. Please note:
- Line and paragraph break will be created automatically
- Web page addresses and e-mail addresses will be turned into links automatically

Most sections on The Big Idea have a filter that allows you to select a subset of the content that is displayed. This enables you to find content that is most relevant to you. Filters are ANDed together e.g. if you select Creative Discipline tag = Dance AND Region tag = Auckland only Dance related content from Auckland will be displayed. - What are Tag* categories?
Tags group content together (e.g. industry news, jobs & opportunities) about similar subjects (e.g. Dance, Wellington City) All content submitted to The Big Idea must have at least one Creative Discipline tag and one Regions tag. Rohe or Iwi tags are optional.
Jobs & Opportunities also have Work Category tags; Event Listings have Event Category tags; Industry Resources have Industry Resource tags; Development Resources have Development Resource Category tags. View all Tag Categories. Find content using Tag Filter - Why should I add keyword tags?
Submitters may also add their own optional Key Word tags to content. Highlight key words that help your content be found - ie name of your organsiation, event, people. - Why can’t I add tags?
When adding tags to content ensure Javascript is enabled on your browser if the Add button is not displaying.
- Firefox: go to Tools > Options > Content tab > check Enable JavaScript and Enable Java buttons > OK.
- IE: go to Tools > Internet Options > Security tab > Custom Level... button > Scripting > Check Active scripting button > OK.
