William Hodges Fellowship

The William Hodges Fellowship artist in residence programme aims to bring significant New Zealand visual artists to Southland and allow them to work within and respond to the Southland environment and community, also making a contribution to the Southland community and its artists. Past fellows have included among many others Margaret Dawson, Mark Braunias, Regan Gentry and Miranda Parkes.

The work produced contributes towards a solo exhibition within the following year at Southland Museum & Art Gallery.

Each year up to three Residencies of thirteen weeks may be awarded. The expectation being that each Resident will undertake a series of work and a small amount of tutoring, which provides the wider community of Southland with access to new and exciting imagery, ideas and techniques in the field of visual arts. Residents will also be expected to provide students with outstanding role models for their own art practice.

Accommodation and Studio space is provided, together with living and working costs.
