To bootstrap means to use revenue or personal savings to run your operations, explains Josh Reeves, founder of unwrapped inc. Rather than seeking out VC money, he said bootstrapping his own venture allowed him to tinker with his company's product and vision without worrying about the reaction of outside investors. An entrepreneur must know what they want to do with outside capital, he advises, before raising it, which takes time. Clara Shih and Steve Garrity, founders of Hearsay Labs, agree wholeheartedly. They sought out VC money in order to push their company to the next level in product development and to satisfy their customers' needs.
