The Science of Growing Rich
'The Science of Growing Rich' by Wallace D Wattles was written in 1908 and has become a timeless classic.
This book will not speak to everyone, says Lorraine Blackley, but for those it does interest here is a summary of the steps Wattles advocated.

The Science of Growing Rich can be found as a free downloadable e-book, being more than 50 years since the death of Wattles it is now in the public domain.
To find the gems in this book you do have to get past the old fashioned and sometimes Christian language. Believe me it is worth it. As Wallace described a science to growing rich I became more and more intrigued. Wallace went on to tell, with absolute certainty, that if the practices he outlines are faithfully and unwaveringly followed it will produce results. The book is very much a practical guide combining universal laws, metaphysics and science.
It had my attention because it is totally in keeping with the principles of creating which has been a personal interest and study of mine for the last 12 years. Wallace is adamant that if you do as he says you will grow rich. It was also obvious to me that the only way to decide if there was merit in what he was saying was to give it a go and see what happened.
So I did. Within three months I received a monetary gift worth $19,000 which I could not have seen coming. Naturally I have continued to follow Wallace’s practices ever since and prosperity and abundance in all forms have continued to grow in my life. For me rich is not just about money. Money is only part of my general prosperity focus.
When I first read the book I created a summary of the steps Wallace advocated. They are included below. This book will not speak to everyone but is here for those it does interest.
Steps adapted from The Science of Growing Rich
by Wallace D Wattles
1. There is an intelligent, creative substance from which everything is formed that in its original state exists in all the spaces between all things. This formless substance is alive and has an unlimited capacity to create.
2. By having a thought and impressing this thought into this formless substance you can cause the thing you think about to be created.
3. In order to do this you must pass from the competitive to the creative mind otherwise you cannot be in harmony with this formless intelligence, which is creative in its nature and never competitive.
4. A deep and continuous sense of gratitude for all that you receive in life is essential to come into a full and united harmony with this formless substance.
5. You must then form a clear and definite mental image of the things you wish to have, to do or become and you must hold that mental image in your thoughts while being deeply grateful and all your desires will be granted to you. If you wish to get rich you must spend all your leisure hours contemplating this vision. It cannot be stressed enough the need for frequent imaging, unwavering faith that you will receive your image and devout gratitude for all you receive in life.
6. The creative energy works through the established channels of natural growth and of the industrial and social order. What you want will come through the ways of established trade and commerce.
7. In order to receive your creation you must engage in activity that more than fills your present place in life. Engage in actions that have integrity for where you are presently and for how you want to become. You must do every day all that can be done.
8. Everyone who practises these instructions will get rich and the riches you receive will be in direct proportion to your strength of vision, commitment to purpose, steadfastness of faith and depth of gratitude.
