2009 Highlights

Artists in Schools: The programme was cut in the budget and its demise nearly went under the radar until artists and teachers raised and discussed it online.  The Big Idea asked Education Minister Anne Tolley why it was cut and hears from a Northland artist and Visual Arts HOD about how the project made a difference to their students, school and community.

Find out more about issues in the Education sector via Arts Online - a NZ Ministry of Education funded interactive online community with resources, materials and links for educators across all sectors in New Zealand.

Some of the community content highlights from 2009 include The Creative Adventures of James Brown video blog. Auckland video editor James Brown works for The Learning Connexion School of Art and Creativity by day, and is a painter by night.

James has created a nine part video blog, documenting the passion, excitement and adventure of working as an emerging painter in New Zealand.

This year’s nine part video blog followed his preparation for the Wallace Art Awards. In 2010 we will continue to follow his adventure from creative conception through to exhibition.
