New National Youth Art Award

The Waikato Society of Arts (WSA) is launching The National Youth Art Award  this year. They are inviting all young artists from all over New Zealand between the ages of 15 and 27 to submit work by 1 September 2009.

The first prize, The Tompkins Wake Youth Art Award, is $2000.

There are also category prizes for best two dimensional, three dimensional, and use of re-purposed or found materials. WSA is eager to support independent and outsider artists as well as student artists who are prepared to jump the boundaries of the curriculum.

The Awards welcome any media and the category prizes reflect this.  The two-dimensional  art prize recognizes excellence in traditional media such as painting, print making, drawing and photography as well as more unconventional 2D forms such as collage and cartooning

Three-dimensional art is also recognized with a prize for excellence in 3D media such as sculpture, installation, ceramics, and jewellery.

Finally there is also prize for the best use of re-purposed materials, aka found materials, recycled or junk art.

The Awards will encompass all forms of art, so entries can be unique, imaginative, delightful or provocative.

The venue is Riverside Mall, Victoria Street, Hamilton. Its expansive spaces will allow exhibition of large scale artworks.

The exhibition will run from 18 September- 1 October. Entries close 1 September.

Artists can download the rules and entry form from the WSA website: www.wsa.org.nz.
