Workshops for young actors

Young actors aged 15-25 will have the chance to learn from some of New Zealand’s leading theatre professionals in a series of workshops at Howick Little Theatre, starting this month.

This is the 11th year that the theatre, situated in Lloyd Elsmore Park, Pakuranga, has been able to offer such amazing opportunities.

Former Shortland Street director Sam Scott and Scott Cotter from the innovative Massive Company will be bringing their bold, inspiring and heartfelt theatre to the Eastern Suburbs for the first time.

Usually, actors wanting to do a Massive workshop have to audition against strong competition for a very limited number of places, but thanks to funding from Creative Communities/Manukau City Council, Howick Little Theatre has been able to offer this weekend workshop to all those aged 15-25 for a minimal fee of $30 and without an audition.

Also teaching this year are top actor, director and teacher Stuart Devenie, who has had a distinguished acting career in New Zealand theatre, TV, film and radio for over three decades, and leading acting coach Miranda Harcourt, whose workshops are both aimed at those 18 years and over.

And starting this month is a “Voice for the Actor” workshop with Unitec’s Head of Voice, Kirstie O’Sullivan, for those aged 18 years and over. It will run one night a week for six weeks, starting May 20. Fees range from $30 to $100 and places are limited.
