Music Seminar: Scene from the Inside
Question: What information might really help musicians develop a more sustainable career in the music industry?
Each year during NZ Music Month there are a number of seminars offering useful assistance and advice on publishing, copyright, touring, recording, promotion etc. Now it’s time to bring a fresh and entertaining perspective to the mix.
A series of conversations at the Depot Artspace with Rikki Morris, Boyd Thwaites and Linda Blincko, led to the idea to create a different kind of seminar. It would be a seminar where those who actually provide services to musicians could have their say.
They could share tall tales and true about their experiences with musicians; the good and the bad, successes and failures, the dream and nightmare musicians. And from these invaluable insights, musicians will learn and understand to work with confidence and be respected in the industry - thus developing sustainable careers.
Six music industry professionals have made themselves available for the seminar:
David McLaughlin (McLaughlin Law) – MC and legal perspectives
Vicky Blood – band/musician manager
Boyd Thwaites – Event venue provider
Chris Tate – College Hill Productions
Rikki Morris - Recording engineer
Feleti Strickson-Pua - Nesian Mystik performer
Wednesday 12 May 10am - 3pm
Masonic Tavern, Devonport.
