Creative Electronics
Want to learn how to create a light activated switch, an audio amplifier and an oscillator circuit that will “play” a banana? Then the Creative Electronics workshop with CoLab's artist in residence Diana Burgoyne is for you!
This workshop is designed to introduce participants to electronics as it pertains to a variety of mediums in addition to investigating electronics as new media practice. The objective of this workshop is to develop skills such as reading schematics, wiring, and troubleshooting while working with interactivity, movement, and sound.
Participants do not need to be mechanically inclined or have any previous experience with electronics to benefit from this workshop. The workshop presents the switch as the basic interface or sensor. The wiring, building and application of momentary, mercury, and relay devices will be addressed. Instruction on identification of electronic components, reading schematic diagrams and soldering will be provided to enable the workshop participant to create a light activated switch. Next, the participants will be familiarized with the building and use of timers, amplifiers and sensors.
This is the same workshop offered on two different days on Saturday 21st and Saturday 28th August, WS512, 9am-4pm, in association with the LIVE. REPEAT. PLAYBACK. programme.
