Arts and Inclusion
Two events on the topic of arts and inclusion, one in Wellington and the other in Auckland, will be held in September with Arts Access Aotearoa support. Both events are free.
In Wellington, IHC is hosting Journeys to Inclusion in the Arts Community, a one-day hui coinciding with the IHC Telecom Art Awards to be announced at a ceremony in Wellington on Tuesday 21 September. The hui, which is open to all individuals and organisations interested in the topic of arts and inclusion, will be held at the Newtown Community Centre from 9.30am to 4.30pm.
The day will include a keynote address, two presentations (by Glen McDonald and Rhonda Swenson of Vincents Art Workshop, and Suzanne Vesty of Spark Studio), along with four workshop sessions:
• Models of best practice
• What inclusive governance means
• Research and evaluation
• Collaboration and resource-sharing.
When you register for the Wellington hui, you will need to list the two workshop sessions you wish to attend.
In Auckland, the Creative Access Network (CAN) is hosting a forum on Sunday 26 September as part of the Interwoven symposium, to be held at the Whitecliffe College of Arts and Design.
The forum, which will run from 10am to 3pm, is an opportunity for the community arts sector to come together to connect, collaborate and be inspired. It includes a panel presentation entitled Developing networks, projects and people. This will inform the discussions to be held in smaller workshop groups in the afternoon. Workshops topics are:
• Inclusive arts practice and governance: models of best practice
• Collaborations and partnerships: engaging with artists - a brainstorm of ideas and potential projects to inspire the network
• Sustainability – shaping our future: Funding and models of community development
When you register for the CAN Forum, you will need to let us know your first and second workshop preferences.
There will also be ten Pecha Kucha presentations. An opening exhibition and social event will be held the night before from 5pm to 7pm, providing networking opportunities.
