In the Driver's Seat
You’ve got talent by the bucketload. You are bursting with fantastic, creative ideas…but you are also feeling a rising sense of panic, followed by despondency, as you realise that with everything happening in your life you may never achieve even half of what you need and want to get done, or see enough of your creative ideas become a reality…
It’s a problem shared by many creative people and, it’s easy to be crushed by the weight of your own and others’ expectations of what you’ve got to get done – but what can you do to make sure that you are not?
This month Sian Jaquet reflects on ‘I’ve got lots of ideas and heaps happening in my life; how can I manage that better?’ and gives her advice on what to do when you find yourself in that situation.
Putting yourself first, recognising and killing off ‘self-sabotaging behaviour’ is a great place to start says Sian: “Catastrophising your daily life has the added burden of stealing your energy both physically and emotionally. Making it even harder for you to find the head space and peace you so want/need.”
It always helps if you have the right tools for the job, so this month’s Generator includes some great practical excercises, tips and resources so you can both identify and keep hold of what you want to happen in your life, as well as manage and prioritise what you need and want to get done.
There is a great Japanese SUV spare tyre cover that exhorts motorists to ‘Take a Grip of Steering’. As we move into a new year, this month’s Generator can help you put yourself in the driver’s seat of your life again. Think of it as a ‘tune-up’ in preparation for a creatively fulfilling, productive and ‘under control’ 2011. Go well!
