New course puts photographers in the picture
Aspiring professional photographers can now up-skill with the introduction of an industry-focussed qualification to a central Auckland location.
To meet a growing demand for its Certificate in Photography Level 4, Manukau Institute of Technology (MIT), is bringing this popular programme to its new purpose-built Newmarket campus from 20 July 2010.
This entry-level, practical qualification is designed to meet industry requirements, providing students with a working knowledge of photographic equipment, procedures and product types. It covers four compulsory topics including Camera Use, Digital Technology 1, which focuses on image editing software, Digital Technology 2, which covers photographic genres and context and Portfolio, which equips students with the ability to make critical selections of images from a broad body of work and helps define their photographic direction.
Enrolments for the course are now open, with two formats of study available to cater for all schedules; a part-time, full-year option with classes on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings plus Saturday workshops, and a full-time, 18 week option to cater for school leavers and students not in employment. MIT will continue to run the Certificate in Photography Level 4 at its Otara campus.
Grant Thompson, Acting Head of MIT’s School of Visual Arts, says, “We always receive a high level of interest in our Otara-based course and are pleased to now be able to offer people in Central Auckland the opportunity to access this practical qualification, which gives students a good introduction to the photography industry.”
MIT’s Newmarket campus is located on the 4th floor of the 277 Broadway Westfield Shopping Centre.
