Acting workshop with Cameron Rhodes
Leading New Zealand theatre professional Cameron Rhodes is holding an acting workshop at Howick Little Theatre in June. Usually weekend workshops cost hundreds of dollars, but thanks to funding from Creative Communities/Manukau City Council, the theatre is able to offer this weekend workshop to all those aged 19 and over for just $60. Places are limited. This is the 12th year that the theatre, situated in Lloyd Elsmore Park, Pakuranga, has been able to offer such an amazing opportunity.
Cameron will run a two-day workshop focusing on connecting impulse/instinct with breath, voice and script. In an intensive and energising two days, he will explore how to connect to actors’ authentic voice and how to energise words and text. Through practical warm-up techniques, participants will learn to ready themselves and “get in the zone” for rehearsal and performance for stage and screen. They will also work on physical-vocal connection using Laban work and integrating body and language. Cameron will also cover various aspects of the actors’ craft, with a focus on objectives, inner truth and connection, and characterisation, using both modern and classical text.
An Actor, Director and Voice/Acting tutor who regularly works at Unitec School of Acting, Cameron was recently seen in the TV docudrama The Kiwi Who Saved Britain. A graduate of Toi Whakaari – NZ Drama School, Cameron has appeared in over 70 professional productions including: Auckland Theatre Company’s The Importance of Being Earnest, She Stoops To Conquer, The 39 Steps, The Duchess of Malfi, A Christmas Carol, and Goldie. Other theatre credits include Loot, Cyrano de Bergerac, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Serial Killers and Sweeney Todd. His theatre directing credits include: Much Ado About Nothing, Closer and Station To Station. Cameron also has film and television experience, including Lord of the Rings, I’m Not Harry Jenson and, Power Rangers, Mercy Peak, Xena Warrior Princess and Dark Knight.
