A Fine Balance

If you are trying to make a living out of your creative work, it’s a dilemma as old as the hills – just how do you balance your passion and creativity with the need to be businesslike and entrepreneurial in your approach?

In this month's Generator article Jana Lyn-Holly shares her insights and experiences in response to the tricky question posed “I want to think like an artist and work like an entrepreneur, how do I do that?”

She wisely says “Thinking like an artist can open up the imagination for strategy and strategy is a pathway that takes us out of today’s reality and into tomorrow’s potential.”

Jana has devised a couple of practical exercises to help develop strategies towards achieving the goal of being an artist/entrepreneur by mapping your story so new insights can emerge, and thinking into the future to visualise success.

As Jana points out “It takes a fine balance to stay on that edge of inspiration and be productive”

Someone else who is intimately acquainted with the ‘see-saw’ of being an entrepreneurial artist /producer is Indian Ink’s Justin Lewis. In this month’s Q&A, he’ll tell us how he strives to get the balance right…and what happens if it gets out-of-whack.

As always you’ll find a bunch of handy Generator resources in the form of videos, online articles and websites to inspire, motivate and inform you as you work.

Good luck, good thinking and good business!
