Journal: Creative Technologies
Journal: Creative Technologies is a new online, open access, peer-reviewed journal for the publication of research and innovation in creative technologies. It is a development of CoLab’s work in facilitating and promoting interdisciplinary research, development and collaboration between education, creative and commercial industries.
The journal’s editor and editorial executive board comprises senior academics and post-graduate researchers from the Faculty of Design and Creative Technologies at AUT University. Experts from around New Zealand and internationally will be invited to join the editorial board as the theme of each issue requires.
“There are very few avenues for emerging researchers to publish work that brings together the various strands of creative technologies,” says editor Jennie Watts, “so Journal: Creative Technologies serves a unique purpose, providing inclusive space for the expression of new research and development in this diverse area.”
The five papers in the inaugural issue hinge around the notion of Transmedia/Transmodality, particularly the dialectic between creation and production, performance and experience, and internally and externally mediated space. Emerging researcher Lyle Reilly reports on the research and development of a ‘smart’ cycling jacket and reveals important new knowledge about the integration of electrical devices in clothing. Body and screen are key components in Becca Wood’s paper which serves as an exegesis alongside her performance work in which she conjures a dialogue about digital technology and digital and physical space.
Journal: Creative Technologies can be found at journal.colab.org.nz. The second issue of the journal is planned for November 2011, and the call for papers will be made shortly.
