Knock out doubt
Actor, writer, director and all-round thespian guru Sir Peter Ustinov once said ‘Beliefs are what divide people. Doubt unites them.’ So if you have ever felt your confidence ebbing and your self-doubt increasing, you’re not alone. It’s a basic human trait to feel the bite of self-doubt and the sting of self-criticism.
So what’s a creative meant to do about this? In this month’s Generator topic creative development coach Lorraine Blackley says that just like the heroes of olde, you have the stuff inside you to face and overcome obstacles.
Lorraine says we need to challenge our conditioning and realise “the difficulties that we face on our path to achieve our goals are the vital ingredients that support our ultimate success.”
Lorraine also gives us some practical exercises to help tame that inner critic and get back on track. Likewise in Generator this month we have a bevy of resources to dip into.
Sure as the sun rises, each of us will face obstacles in 2011 – it is how you deal with them that will help define you and what you do.
