Example profile

Be found and connect online

You don’t need to spend a fortune to stand out from the crowd. We’ve tried to do the hard work for you, with these simple steps to build your online profile on The Big Idea.

The Big Idea isn’t just about news and events and jobs, it’s about you. It’s about people being able to find you and discover more about you. This can lead to sales, a job, a contract, an exhibition…the networking possibilities are endless.

A profile on New Zealand’s number one creative community website is a great way to be found, with more than 2000 visitors a day and a high ranking on search engines.

It also helps you find people including potential collaborators, employers or suppliers. The more we know about each other, the more opportunities there are to help each other.

It all begins with a good profile.

Step 1. Get started

Login or join The Big Idea. Find your username or password.

Contact us if you need a hand.

Click on My Profile tab, click on the Edit tab and fill out three forms.

• Account settings: Controls your username and password. Upload an avatar [picture]. The picture size is 150 x 150 pixels. Allow members to contact you by e-mail by enabling your Personal Contact form

• About: A bit about yourself or your organisation

• Contact details:  Your phone number, email, website and social networks including Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin.  List your profile page on directory and selling sites you belong to.  You don’t need to fill in every field – just the ones where you want people to connect with you.

Step 2. Share your content

Build a bigger picture of who you are, what you do and who you connect with on The Big Idea by sharing content including jobs & opportunities, events, gallery items, news stories or comments. They will display in your profile (if you choose to make it public) becoming a showcase and archive of your creative output.

There are many ways you can be found. Here are some places to start.

Professional services listing: If you have a service you can offer to other members of the creative sector

Industry resources listing: Profile your work and services by listing your resource

Resumes: Add your resume - you can list a summary or detailed resume, attach a document (including a formatted resume and examples of your work) or link to an online resume.

Show: A picture is worth a thousand words so show us what you do and maybe even sell it too. You can show your performance [in video] - which could be a concert, theatre performance, music video or examples of your work.
