Right Brained Web: Publishing in a digital age

Simon Young is the director of #sy social media consultancy.

What's the future of professional content creators in a world where anyone with an internet connection can create or curate content?

In the new Right Brained Web blog on The Big Idea - social media consultant Simon Young discusses publishing, monetisation and amateur explosions with publisher Vincent Heeringa.

Recently Vincent Heeringa, publisher of IdealogGood Magazine and Marketing Magazine, stopped by the #sy social media consultancy offices to discuss what social media means for him as a publisher. It just so happened we had a camera handy!

Vincent mentioned the explosion of amateur content that social media has enabled, a topic also covered in the book Here Comes Everybody. It changes everything, but perhaps not as much as we might expect.

My take: When everyone can use social technology to "broadcast themselves", it serves to make good content stand out even more. It shows how important are the things that can't be bought at Dick Smith or Noel Leeming - things like talent, skill, and 10,000 hours of practice.

As we often point out, today anyone can be a consumer, creator or curator of content. If you’re reading this, you have the power. What are you doing with it? (Not a rhetorical question; we’d love to know your answer in the comments)
