Cultural Storytellers: Fijian New Zealand filmmaker and playwright Toa Fraser has been awarded this year’s three month Fulbright-Creative New Zealand Pacific Writer’s Residency at the University of Hawai‘i. A few days into his residency, Toa talks to Renee Liang about scriptwriting, stories and the importance of a good breakfast.
Going West: Murray Gray has been the programme director for the Going West Books and Writers Festival since its inception 14 years ago. He describes how the event was inspired by Maurice Gee’s book Going West, and how the festival has evolved. “At the heart of all the events is the written word,” says Gray.
The major centrepiece of the festival is still the literary weekend, from September 11-13.
