Outdoor New Zealand sculpture exhibition part of New Zealand Festival 2004

New Zealand sculptors are invited to contribute works for a major outdoor sculpture event being organised as part of the programme for the 2004 New Zealand Festival in February/March 2004.

The event - SHAPESHIFTER - essential New Zealand sculpture will run for 9 days and be promoted as an official part of the Festival programme. Artistic Director for the event is Tim Walker, Director of The Dowse, one of the country's most celebrated art museums. Walker says, " This is a great initiative by the Rotary Club of Hutt. The project will provide an excellent opportunity for New Zealand sculptors to exhibit and sell outdoor works within the programme of one of the most acclaimed and best-attended arts events in New Zealand. With the planned promotion of the event this should ensure high profile, attendance and sales".

SHAPESHIFTER will be staged in the beautiful grounds of the historic Frederic Wallis House in Lower Hutt. The project is a fundraising initiative of the Rotary Club of Hutt, with funds raised going to community projects. Walker stresses that the organising group have sought a lot of input from art dealers and artists to ensure the project delivers a high level professional result for the artists and the public. "Its important to everyone involved that SHAPESHIFTER is seen as a high quality and professional initiative. This is essential if the exhibition is to become a regular component of the New Zealand Festival as planned". For information contact the organisers at PO Box 30111 Lower Hutt, or shape.shifter@paradise.net.nz or phone/fax 04 568 4277.
