Gabriella Trussardi: Ab/ject

Gabriella Trussardi: Ab/ject

The exhibition features artefacts which respond to issues of abjection and subjecthood, expressed through worn and mended clothing.

Clothing creates a threshold between the body and the world.  This is compromised with evidence of stains and wear.  These garments explore a subversion of this interior/exterior binary.

Gabriella Trussardi has based these works on a mobius strip, and all of the garments have a single surface: with "no inside and no outside, but a single contiguous surface, and a single line from hem to neck and back again."

The exhibition's opening function is from 4 - 6 pm, Sunday 9th August 2009, and the exhibition will continue in Northart's Gallery 4 until 26 August.  Concurrently displayed will be Greg Piper's exhibition Avian Architecture, featuring drawings which ponder the mysteries of nest-building in the urban environment.
