Ancient Gods and Goddesses of the Past
Bellydancing artist and tutor Ishtar Hathor will take the audience on board for an exotic journey on 13 November, with her show Ancient Gods and Goddesses of the Past presented as a Te Tuhi public programme.
Ishtar is a well known professional bellydancer with several years experience both performing and teaching. Ishtar started dancing at a young age and has thousands of dance hours up her sleeve, enabling her to gain Master Dancer status.
She has performed as a dancer in a popular TV series in 2009, in music videos in 2008. She has also performed in the Tempo Dance Festival in 2006 and 2007 and is often reviewed highly for having an extensive dance vocabulary and a talented entertainer.
“Te Tuhi Centre for the Arts is looking forward to this Friday’s performance,” says Te Tuhi’s Public Progamme Coordinator, Renee Tanner. “Since Ishtar started offering Belly Dancing classes at Te Tuhi the enthusiasm from the public has been overwhelming. There is definitely a huge interest out here for this unique and very fun style of dance.”
Ishtar is bringing together a large group of dance groups from across New Zealand, who will be performing a variety of dances. Included in the performance will be the students from Isthar’s advanced class at Te Tuhi who have been training for a whole year on various choreographies. “It will be an eclectic and spectacular performance,” says Ishtar.
The show promises to be tantalizing. There will be prizes for those who come in costume reflecting the theme, and traditional 'Hafla' dancing afterwards by all the audience and stage performers.
