Blooming Revolution
Artworks exploring an amazing variety of plant life in a vibrant display of photographic, carved and painted works are on show at Manukau City Council’s Nathan Homestead from 26 November.
The Blooming Revolution exhibition is curated by Brent McGuire, an artist, tutor and recipient of international recognition for his work in botanical art.
This group exhibition features a selection of Brent's finest works and also includes art from fourteen other botanical artists such as Beverley Cox and Liz McAuliffe.
Brent has a passion for promoting a wider awareness of this specialised and exquisite discipline in the arts. His own inspiration was fired after seeing Monet's water lilies series, and subsequently he has been painting water gardens and lotus, with a strong awareness of Monet's influence on his work. Brent won the Royal Horticultural Society Silver Medal in London 2004.
“An outstanding aspect of the exhibition is the emergence of the individual voice of each artist, while still contained within the disciplined format of botanical art,” says exhibitions coordinator Gabrielle Belz.
A special opening event for the artists will be held on Saturday 28 November at 1.30pm. Artist demonstrations where visitors can meet the curator and the artists will take place on Monday 30 November, and the following week on Monday 7 and Tuesday 8 December.
To coincide with the Blooming Revolution exhibition Brent will be teaching a special Botanical Drawing two day workshop at Nathan Homestead on 5 and 6 December.
