Fat Freddy's Drop Live Globe-Trotters 2010
Fat Freddy’s Drop has announced a string of shows in Europe and the West Coast of America that will follow The Freddy’s Show tour of New Zealand theatres.
The purveyors of pirate soul are heading off in June to Sierra Nevada World Music Festival in Boonville, California. Fat Freddy’s Drop will play alongside Tony Allan, Barrington Levy, The Skatalites, Marcia Griffth and New Zealand’s own KORA.
The band then step into West Coast's Hall Of Fame at 4th & B in San Diego, The Music Box @ Henry Fonda Theater on Hollywood Boulevard and then a return for two nights at the Independent in San Francisco after a sell out show in November. Look out for confirmation of Hawaii’s four gigs on four different islands in four days over the 4th of July Weekend!
In Europe, Fat Freddy’s Drop are aiming to play to over 100,000 people from August onwards. Securing an extensive tour of top-tier summer festivals and venues including Pukkelpop in Belgium, Lowlands Festival in The Netherlands, Vega in Denmark, Festival Rock en Seine in France, Coliseum in Portugal, Electric Picnic in Ireland, ABC in Glasgow, Troxy in London, Bristol Academy and Bestival on the Isle of Wight.
Fat Freddy’s Drop have toured Europe annually for the past seven years and the audience there continues to grow. European sales of their latest album Dr Boondigga & The Big BW recently reached 35,000. This is the first time that overseas sales have surpassed New Zealand sales (currently Double Platinum with 32,000 sales). The band’s family-operated label, The Drop, now operates in Europe from an office based in Berlin and has distribution contracts in every major European territory.
For now, New Zealand has the opportunity to experience Fat Freddy’s Drop Live as they raise the curtain in theatres across the country. The Freddy’s Show is an opportunity to check the band in a new space & time, a musical excursion that includes gems rarely performed before, a visual and sonic treat for all.
