APO Summer Matinee

APO Summer Matinee

The Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra’s Summer Matinée concert at Government House on Saturday, the 13th of February brings together a “Light and Latin” programme of Baroque favourites by Handel and Bach, combined with some sizzling South American flavours by way of Tosti and Gershwin among others.

The ever-popular mezzo-soprano Helen Medlyn emcees and performs alongside soprano Emma Sloman and conductor Brett Kelly, all the while enchanting audiences with arias and musical numbers from the classical and the not-so-classical repertoire.

Now in its 27th year, the APO Summer Matinée concert remains one of the most anticipated events in the summer calendar, due largely to its winning combination of fine music, food and wine in a wonderful lawn setting. The concert attracts a diverse audience, from classical music connoisseurs to casual weekenders looking for a distinctive musical experience.

The APO Summer Matinée takes place at the lawns of Government House at the foothills of Mount Eden, and is hosted by Their Excellencies, The Hon Sir Anand Satyanand, Governor-General of New Zealand and Lady Satyanand. The Governor-General often welcomes visiting Heads of State to New Zealand at ceremonies at Government House and The Queen stays there whenever she visits Auckland.  The grounds have been rated as a "Garden of National Significance" by the New Zealand Gardens Trust.

Audiences are able to bring their own picnic and refreshments to the grounds, but they are also able to pre-order wines from the award-winning vineyard Villa Maria Estate or hampers from luxury caterers Dawson’s through the APO.

For more information or to secure admissions to the event, interested parties may phone the APO ticketing office on 09 6231052 or by booking online on www.apo.co.nz.
