Spiro: Exhibition with a twist

KINA Gallery is delighted to present innovative, up-cycled work by Andi Regan. Regan is a multi-media artist based in Wanaka who employs discarded or everyday materials and turns them into beautiful, desirable and decorative objects. Her current work utilises cable ties to create 3 Dimensional Wall Sculptures.

Regan has a background in textile design, which is evident in the way she plays with texture and pattern in her work. Her work transcends the boundaries of conventional textile design, taking on an experimental approach using unconventional materials.

Using techniques such as fusing, tying and folding, Regan states that her work seems to always evolve into something symmetrical and decorative: “I have an obsession for circular objects which I balance with a fascination of materials being used in an unconventional way; each material takes on a new form as the work evolves and is ultimately re-created”.

Regan’s most recent work on show at KINA has been inspired by Spirographs: “I was fascinated by them as a child, loving the symmetry and patterns they could make, I recently found an old set from the 70’s and have found it to a constant point of reference”.

SPIRO: An exhibition with a twist is on show in the KINA gallery until the 13th July 2010.

Everything at KINA is New Zealand made; even the music played in the design store is home grown.

Showcasing not only special one-off objects of beauty, KINA is also a popular destination for affordable gifts which express the enviable Kiwi individual spirit and style from jewellery, ceramics, sculpture, glass, limited edition prints, handmade NZ crafts, greenstone, weaving, kiwiana souvenirs and presents for all.

KINA also has monthly exhibitions in the attached gallery space by predominately Taranaki artists.

Based in New Plymouth, KINA is now open all hours to shoppers worldwide, since the launch of the on-line shop in 2006. New products are added regularly to the on-line shop, so it pays to make frequent visits to the new page. Better still, you can become a friend of KINA and receive a monthly newsletter about exhibitions and new products.

With a wonderful range of jewellery and gifts, KINA also offers free gift wrapping, gift vouchers, a professional packaging service and world-wide delivery. Remember posting gifts overseas with us is GST free.

The KINA team are committed to following sustainability principles of recycling, reducing and reusing wherever possible. Along with directly supporting local environmental projects we like to share our knowledge and experience with the arts community as well. It’s true we’re greenies at heart and wouldn’t have it any other way. It’s not alright to leave it to others. We all need to make an effort.
