Waitangi Day Celebrations

The performance schedule for Toi o Manukau’s Waitangi Day Family Celebrations has been confirmed.

The day commences with a Mihi Whakatau (opening ceremony) then a range of performances by cultural groups representing the diversity of South Auckland.

Headline act Sola Rosa, featuring Iva Lamkum, and international guest Fiji are supported by a strong local line-up, with Three Houses Down, Adeaze, Sweet & Irie and Valiant Boys all originating in South Auckland. Wellington acts Vintage and Ria Hall will also be performing.

The free, outdoor, family event provides an opportunity for residents to celebrate New Zealand’s national day in a dynamic festival environment complete with entertainment, education, a marketplace, and free kids’ rides.

Fans will also be able to meet their favourite artists in person at the Mai FM signing tent throughout the day.

Toi o Manukau’s Waitangi Day Family Celebrations are supported by Auckland Council, the Ministry for Culture and Heritage, The Lion Foundation and Mai FM.

    Arts Auckland South

Arts and Culture South is a unit of Auckland Council. We run arts centres, exhibitions, events and classes through Auckland South.

Our centres include Nathan Homestead (Manurewa) Otara Music Arts Centre and Fresh Gallery Otara, Mangere Arts Centre - Nga Tohu o Uenuku, Metro Theatre (Mangere), Papakura Gallery and Hawkins Theatre (Papakura).

Our Arts Centres run a busy schedule of community arts activities including exhibitions by local artists, classes, holiday programmes, concerts, competitions and events.

We have two arts co-ordinators devoted to Maori Arts and Pacific Arts. Nigel Borell, Toi O Manukau Kaiwhakahaere - Maori Arts Coordinator, runs Toi o Manukau's Waitangi Day Family Celebrations and coordinates Matariki events in South Auckland. Ema Tavola, Pacific Arts Coordinator and Manager of Fresh Gallery Otara, runs the annual Pacific Arts Summit and associated events. Both coordinators play an active role in the arts community as artists, mentors and supporters of the arts.
