Matariki Festival 2011
Auckland's Matariki Festival promises to be better than ever this year, with dozens of special events and activities being organised across Tamaki Makaurau (Auckland) from 4 June to 4 July to celebrate Maori New Year.
From music concerts, cultural performances and art exhibitions to a food forum and native tree plantings, Matariki Festival 2011 will provide Aucklanders and visitors alike with a range of opportunities to experience a living cultural tradition with tangata whenua and to come together to celebrate New Zealand’s unique Maori heritage.
The Matariki Festival incorporates a number of events proudly presented by Auckland Council along with its sponsors and supporters, in addition to many initiatives organised by others in the community to celebrate this special time of year.
From the opening dawn karakia (prayer) ceremony at Maungakiekie (One Tree Hill), to Manu Aute Kite Day supported by New Zealand Post on the closing weekend, there will be something for everyone in Matariki Festival 2011.
E iri iho nga whetu o Matariki. Kanapa iho hei hau ohaki na tua mai raano. I tuku iho ma nga uri, hei tohu whakamihi ki o te whenua, te moana me te rangi ano. Hei whakanui ma te ringa toi rangatahi, hei whainga maioha ma nga tini iwi.
Haere mai, nau mai, piki mai.

- Support of industry associations and business events such as The Big Idea, ART Survive and Thrive forums and Film Auckland
- Delivery of community services to maintain and develop community and recreation facilities and centres
- Support and delivery of community and major events such as Pasifika Festival, Lantern Festival and Music in Parks
