Event Industry Awards add environmental category

The national Event Industry Awards, presented annually by the New Zealand Association of Event Professionals (NZAEP), has introduced a new category reflecting the growing importance of environmental awareness on event management.

Recognising outstanding achievement, the Awards have been expanded to include a category for Best Environmentally Sustainable Event as well as the existing categories: Best Emerging Event, Best Established Event, Best Marketing of Event and Best Partnership for Event.NZAEP Board member and Awards Coordinator Pitsch Leiser believes that the new category is relevant to today's event professionals.

"Entrants to this category need to demonstrate a systematic approach towards making their event environmentally sustainable. In essence the category measures the innovations put in place to decrease the negative impact of an event on the environment, an area of particular importance to event deliverers in New Zealand", added Leiser.

The NZAEP Event Industry Awards are open to any New Zealand event company, individual or local authority that has produced an event or qualifying element of an event within the last two years.

The judging panel consists of industry specialists selected across various event disciplines throughout New Zealand. Award nominations need to be made online, with entries closing Friday 11 July 2008. Winners will be announced at the Eventing The Future conference dinner.

Eventing The Future 08 is the official conference of the NZAEP and will be held 6 to 8 August at The Dunedin Centre. Speakers include Kelven Tan of the Singapore Sports Council, Andrew Bleby, General Manager of the Arts Project Australia and Bruce Dewar, whose keynote topic will be about leveraging opportunities from hosting the 2010 Winter Games Vancouver.

Since 2005 the NZAEP has been promoting best standards to align the event management industry with best international practice. NZAEP now has close to 200 members, including event professionals from central and local government, event companies, not-for-profit organisations, educational institutions and event industry suppliers.
