Canaan Downs Recession 09
Tis the season. Banks dropping interest rates. Finance companies dropping their trousers. Ten dollar price limits on Christmas presents. But who wants to skimp on New Years Eve?
So the nice peeps at Canaan Downs Festival have made things a whole lot easier on the back pocket. This boutique dance party is offering festival goers the opportunity to turn couples into threesomes. For free. Tickets that is.
Yes a recession-busting three tickets for the price of two, up until Christmas. Headline acts include Dimmer, Sam Hunt, Little Bushman and Solaa and the finest Kiwi electronica has to offer.
"What better Christmas present?" asks organizer Simon Kong. "We've grown the festival to the size we need, now it's time to share the love."
"We know that in these financially strapped times there are people who are wondering if they can afford to celebrate 2009. We don't want them to miss out."
This year will mark the 12th anniversary of New Year events at Canaan Downs. It's held on the same site as the mighty Gathering. Grassy fields surrounded by limestone outcrops and native beech forest.
Over three days and two nights partygoers will lap up the best home-grown tunes over four dance zones, including the new Boom Chamber, take in movies and documentaries at the starlight cinema, experience experimental art, sculpture, musical workshops and a whole bunch of kid-centred stuff. All at the most stunning and friendly campsite in the country.
"The festival is a zero waste event. And we don't want anyone wasting their New Year's Eve anywhere else. Especially if they can't afford it."
The usual facilities of 24hr Ambulance, Fire Services and friendly Security will be on site. Plus filtered water supply and regularly serviced Toilets provided. Canaan Downs is a no-alcohol event.
Tickets are currently $159.00 plus booking fee. $199.00 on the gate. Kids under 14 and adults over 65 get in free.
