Ila Couch

Occupied with all things visual. TV producer/director, photographer, visual artist, card maker, admirer of camels.

Favourite tools:

My body. It houses an incredibly demanding brain that insists on giving life to every idea it falls in love with. My digital camera, although I still pine for my Pentax Spotmatic.

Inspiration:

People who get things done. My friends Penny and Maria who are solo mothers supporting their kids and making art. My husband who built the studio before recording his album.

Listening to:

Amandla - www.amandlanet.com
Lismore - www.lismoremusic.com
Prince and Ween forever. I'm also loving The Mint Chicks and Goldenhorse and am hoping Geoff establishes a Myspace page for Bressacreating Cake so the world can appreciate like I do, how great that band was.

Now showing:

Maori Language Reality Show, Waka Reo on Maori Television & TV3.

What do you call a Maori Aerial? An exhibition about the various uses for the humble coathanger. A collaboration with sculptor and artist Rewi Couch, showing at Our City Otautahi Gallery in Christchurch until mid-April and then heading on the road. More details to come. And until One News takes this link off line the news item they did about our show.

My Big Idea:

Learning my language and working on another great show that puts that to use. Getting all my ideas done before I run out of time!
