Rebecca Priestley

Science historian

Favourite tools:

National Library of New Zealand, Archives New Zealand, the internet, Dictionary of New Zealand Biography, second-hand book stores !

Inspiration:

Stories that haven't been told, the thrill of discovery, sleuthing at the National Archives.

Listening to:

National Radio. And tuis, fantails and waxeyes in my garden.

Now showing:

On Te Ara: The Encyclopedia of New Zealand, and in past health and science columns for the New Zealand Listener. An exhibition co-curated with Veronika Meduna - Butterflies, Boffins & Black Smokers: two centuries of science in New Zealand - showed at the National Library Gallery in Wellington in 2006. It is currently being adapted to book format for Random House. Another book on the way is the Awa Book of New Zealand Science, an anthology to be published by Awa Press.

My Big Idea:

For our best scientists to be as recognised and celebrated as our top sportspeople and artists!
