Brigid Lowry

Writer of poetry, short fiction, autobiography, novels for teenagers, letters and emails, journals, postcards.

Favourite tools:

Pen and paper, computer, caffeine.

Inspiration:

I love all art forms: galleries, movies, music, sculpture, popular culture. I read widely: poetry, magazines, art books, novels, short fiction, essays, memoir. Travelling is a great inspiration for me. Getting out of the comfort zone of my own culture feeds me deeply. So does having lots of time to moodle, idle and muddle about. It may seem that nothing is happening during these times but they are often a groundswell from which things emerge, mysteriously and organically, nourishing my thinking and my writing.

Listening to:

Jazz, soul, motown, rain, kids, people in cafes, my own heartbeat.

Now showing:

You can find out more about my teenage books by Googling me up, or go to Allen & Unwin's website. If you'd like to see samples of my other work, check out my website here

My Big Idea:

To live simply and creatively, and to nourish creativity in others. I'd like people to not feel limited by choosing one art form. (I'm a fledgling textile artist, mosaic artist, and stand-up comedienne, for example.)
